Houston is hard on grass

St. Augustine browns out by mid-July and stays that way. Watering it back costs real money, and drought restrictions can remove that option entirely.
Clay and standing water
Gumbo clay does not drain. After a storm the yard is mud for days, and the low spot by the fence never dries.
Shade under the oaks
Nothing grows under a mature live oak. You have reseeded that bare ring three times and it came back bare three times.
Pests and dogs
Chinch bugs and brown patch mean recurring treatments. Dogs mean holes, dead spots, and muddy paws on the kitchen floor.

What it costs
Honest ranges, so you know before you call whether this is in budget. Every yard is quoted individually after we walk it.

A typical 1,000 sq ft backyard runs $8,000 to $12,000 installed. That includes grass removal, a compacted free-draining base, turf, seaming, infill, and final grooming. Smaller yards cost more per square foot because mobilization is a fixed cost regardless of job size.

Design and written quote
A fixed written price with the turf product, base depth, and infill spelled out. No verbal estimates.
Removal and base prep
Old grass out, grade corrected, drainage addressed, compacted base laid. This step decides whether the install lasts.
Installation
Turf laid with the grain consistent, seams bonded, edges secured, infill brushed in.
Final walkthrough
We walk it with you before anyone leaves. Anything you are not happy with gets fixed then, not scheduled for later.

Does it get hot?
Yes. In direct Houston sun, turf runs meaningfully hotter than natural grass. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling. What we do about it: cooling infill, lighter-colored blade options, and honest shade planning so the hottest part of the yard is not the part your kids use at 3pm. In shade it is a non-issue. In full afternoon sun it is warm underfoot in summer.
What happens when it floods?
A properly built turf system drains faster than compacted clay, because the base under it is engineered to move water. It does not make your yard flood-proof. If your yard holds water now, we address grade and drainage during base prep, and we will tell you up front if that adds cost.
How long does it last?
Fifteen to twenty-five years depending on product, sun exposure, and traffic. Not forever. We will tell you which product we are installing and what its warranty actually covers.
Is artificial turf environmentally friendly?
Partly, and we would rather be straight with you about the tradeoff. On the good side: no watering, no gas mower, no fertilizer or weed killer running into the bayou. On the other side, it is a plastic product, it gets hot, it provides no habitat for insects or birds, and at end of life it is difficult to recycle. If your priority is water and chemical reduction, turf delivers. If your priority is habitat, native landscaping is the better answer and we will say so.
Will my HOA allow it?
Most Houston-area HOAs permit turf in back yards, and rules on front yards vary considerably. We will help you put together the submittal, but check your deed restrictions before signing anything.
Is it safe for dogs?
Yes, and pets are one of the most common reasons people call us. Pet systems use antimicrobial infill and a higher-flow backing so urine drains rather than sits. Rinse it down periodically and it stays fresh.
Who does the installation?
We design and price the job, manage the schedule, and stand behind the result. Installation is carried out by vetted crews we work with regularly. One person owns your project from the first visit to the final walkthrough, and that is who you call if something is wrong later.
